Many images that will be posted at this website have been submitted by volunteers over the years, when I had my old website up. Eventually, all of these photos will be reposted at this new Faiview website. We have so far over 150 contributors. See Credits.
Requirements for Photos. If you have old photos of Fairview that are at least in focus, please consider one of the following three methods of submitting them to yorkshipvillage.com for others to enjoy. Damaged photos torn or with marks are okay as long as they are in focus.
1) Scan at 600 dots per inch (600 dpi) so details such as faces can be recognized easily. You have to manually set this scan parameter as the default is usually 150 or 200 dpi. Leave the default setting to scan in color even for black and white photos and make sure you do not let the software process the photos in any way such as sharpening. I can do that much better with my specialized software. Save to jpg.
2) I have had some volunteers go to a local store to scan or make an identical physical copy of a photo and then send me the copy via the United States Postal Service (USPS). I can return the copies and then, you have an extra set of your photos that you can give to a relative or friend.
3) I have had a few volunteers snail me photos via USPS, which I scan and return. We carefully arrange details by email so we monitor and track at each step since originals are being sent.
If the images are not blurry, I can often digitally restore sections, enhance the resolution, and clean things up at bit. If you have trouble with any of the above steps or have questions, please email me for assistance: sonny@yorkshipvillage.com.
The Ruiz Home Movie Collection (mainly from 1957 - 1972), taken by my late parents Mike and Agnes, was transferred to digital form by Bruce Mayfield in 2002. At that time, the best technology called for shooting a video of the projected movies. I then edited the videos down to small segments such as graduatons and birthday parties. I link to many of those videos, which I post on YouTube. Today however, there are machines that can capture images directly from the old film providing for better transfer quality. The complete Ruiz Home Movie Collection has been redigitized and I will be posting these better versions in the future.
If you have old home movies on film, consider contacting me to discuss digital transfer and making them available for others to enjoy.
